On June 7 I'm opening Starfall Studios to photographers for a session with the fighters from Knight Night Fights — the people from the portraits below. Full plate armor, chain mail, real swords, real characters. I photographed them before their show. Now I'm opening the studio so you can work with them the same way I did.
Knight Night Fights is a full-contact medieval combat event organized by Folly Cabaret. The fighters who show up on June 7 wear real combat armor — steel plate, chain mail, fabricated and sourced pieces built for the sport. They fight with real weapons. The personas are real.
I photographed them before their show. What you see in the gallery below is what's possible when you put these people under studio lights. I want other photographers to have that same access.
This session is at Starfall Studios in West Seattle. I'll be on-site the entire day. Continuous lights, no flash — so there's no sync speed ceiling.
Each block is 90 minutes of shooting time, followed by a 30-minute reset. You're welcome to stay and talk with the fighters while they're out of armor — just clear the set by the start of the next block. Blocks are first-come, first-served. Four spots per block.
These are two of the fighters from the Seattle Knights. More knights will be joining on June 7 — this is what they look like under studio lights.

Full plate, chain mail, leather — combat armor built and sourced for the sport. Not rented, not borrowed. Their gear. During the session it's posed and slow — no live contact, so you can get as close as you need.
Continuous lights — no sync speed ceiling. Lighting is set up before you arrive. RGB accents are available if you want them. If you want to adjust anything on the day, just ask.
Portraits, environmental shots, slow choreographed combat poses. No rushing. You and up to three other photographers.
Two AC units, a drum fan, water and electrolytes staged. Fighters come out of armor between blocks to recover.
I'm here to run the session, direct the fighters, and make sure you walk away with something you're proud of.
Arrive for your block. You don't need to be there all day — just for the window you booked.
Arrive at 2. 90 minutes shooting, then fighters reset while you're welcome to stay and chat. Clear the set by 4.
Arrive at 4. Same fighters, same kit. 90 minutes shooting, then hang with the knights while they reset. Clear the set by 6.
Arrive at 6. Studio-lit throughout — some ambient evening light comes in through the windows but the session runs on continuous lights. Stay and chat during reset. Done by 8.
Session ends. Everyone goes home with good frames.

Nope. One block gets you 90 minutes of shooting time plus a chance to hang with the fighters while they reset. That's plenty. If you want all day, book all three separately.
Just your camera. Lighting is handled — continuous lights, no flash required. If you want to bring a reflector or a second body, go for it. There's space.
We're planning on most likely 6 fighters. Each will have their own armor style and kit — full plate, chain mail, leather builds. More variety in the room means more to shoot.
Whatever you want — portfolio, print, social, commercial. Fighters sign a model release when they arrive on June 7, so you're covered. They also have usage rights to images of themselves.
No. June 7 is a portrait session — static poses, slow choreographed combat beats, detail shots. No live bouts, no full contact. If you want to see them actually fight, that's June 20 at the KNF main event.
4435 35th Ave SW, West Seattle 98126. Ground floor, no stairs. Free parking on 35th or in the Forge West Seattle lot. About 15 minutes from downtown.
Blocks are priced flat at $40 regardless of how long you stay within them. If you need to leave early, that's fine — just let me know ahead of time.
When a block sells out, it's gone. There's no hard cutoff date — if spots are still open the day before, you can still book. Four spots per block, first come first served.
Full plate armor, chain mail, real swords, studio lighting. I'll be there the whole time. Just bring your camera.
